Composting is a key to great gardening

Composting is the natural process that occurs when organic materials break down and turn into soil. It is a nutrient-rich organic material created from decomposed plant and food waste. It serves as a natural fertilizer, enhancing soil health and promoting plant growth. By recycling kitchen scraps and yard waste, composting reduces landfill waste and contributes to a sustainable environment. It's an eco-friendly solution for gardeners and farmers looking to enrich their soil naturally.

Compost  happens without human intervention (forests do fine on their own) but people have reproduced the process to speed up the results. There is a continuum of time periods in which the composting process can take place depending on how much labor the gardener wants to input. You can throw all your yard waste onto a pile and never touch it and it will decompose and be ready for use in around 6 months. Alternatively, you can carefully monitor the greens, browns, air, water and additives and you will have compost in a few weeks.
